When you meet people, they usually have an affect an on you in some way;
Positively they can:
· Inspire you
· Encourage you
· Thrill you
· Motivate you
· Are kind to you
· Support you
Or in contrast are:
· Unkind to you
· Aggressive to you
· Scare you
· Worry you
· Con you
But some have none of these: seemingly lacking in personality. They are, as my friend so aptly described to me this weekend ‘Pasta, no sauce!’ When I heard this, I laughed out loud as it is such a perfect description. Plain pasta, is indeed, filling and does the job, it is not offensive or cruel; arrogant or attention seeking but provides no liking or satisfaction in any way! It does in fact need a sauce to add some ‘sparkle!’
This term came up because I was talking about a Midwife I had who to be quite honest was the most bland person I have ever met! She came to visit me after I had my first baby and I had so many questions to ask and was so nervous about what lie ahead. Additionally I was having lots of issues with breast feeding and BBnot latching on. I wanted someone that could offer me support, and provide council and guidance. Let’s just say a wet dishcloth would have been better!
She introduced herself and then sat there silent. So I waited. She stared at me and I felt myself going red. I decided to offer a drink for the second time and she declined. I waited. Finally she sighed out a ‘So, shall we weigh the baby?’ So I chirped back optimistically that I hoped he had gained weight. She replied with ‘Mmmm.’ It was like drawing blood from a stone! I started to ask some questions about feeding. However every question I asked she answered with ‘Well what do you think?’ Well if I had known the answer I would not have asked the bloody question in the first place!
In the end I stopped talking as it is kind of embarrassing having a one way conversation. So she sat there and stared at me for five whole minutes! I didn’t know what she wanted from me. In the end she said, ‘Well I shall leave you to it!’
Oh my, it was painful! I wasn’t expecting Arabiata or Pesto but a Carbonara sauce would have been an improvement (however even that can get a little dull five mouthfuls in!) She was absolutely in no uncertain terms ‘pasta no sauce!’ The phrase however is not, and I shall use it forever more!

That is a genius phrase! Can I just clarify one point though…you are in no way 'pasta, no sauce' to me! All the positive points you mentioned are what you are to me and last Saturday you just succeeded in reaffirming that! Bless your beautiful heart!

Oh I love it, I can think of so many people who that applies to! I'm pinching it.
Brilliant phrase, I'm definitely going to steal it. x
Pinch away! I am glad you like it as much as me! I think we can all think of someone it applies to!

I can think of many of those, one particular one obviously hadn't had a good rinsing as she was as sticky as hell, I couldn't get rid of her, everywhere I turned there she was, sticking to me like an overcooked piece of fusilli!!
Great Post

What a brilliant post, it sounded excrutiatingly painful with that midwife. You would think people skills would be a requirement, no wonder she has moved to the community! xx
